Valoriza Servicios Medioambientales, a leading waste management and treatment company in Spain, and Kira Ventures, a firm specialising in energy transition, have formed KamBIO Energía, a joint venture aimed at becoming a key player in the development of biomethane in Spain.

With an initial portfolio of more than 20 projects under development, KamBIO aims to exceed 1 TWh of annual biomethane production capacity, which will involve investments of more than €400 million. The first projects will be operational from 2027, combining its own initiatives and projects promoted by third parties.

For Valoriza, this agreement represents another step forward in its commitment to the circular economy and innovation in the energy sector. The company brings its accumulated experience in the design, construction and operation of waste and biogas treatment plants —with more than 10 facilities in operation— as well as its leadership in milestones such as Spain's first biogas upgrading plant in the Valdemingómez Technology Park.

In the words of José Antonio García Galdón, Managing Director of Waste Treatment at Valoriza: ‘This agreement allows us to combine our experience in waste management, our financial muscle and the agility of a company like KamBIO to accelerate the necessary investments in this sector.’

Biomethane, obtained from organic waste, is establishing itself as one of the most effective solutions for advancing towards the decarbonisation of transport, strengthening energy independence and generating opportunities for economic development in the regions.

With the creation of KamBIO, Valoriza is reinforcing its commitment to a management model that converts waste into resources, contributing to the fulfilment of European sustainability and energy transition objectives.
